Institutional investors with broadly indexed investments are increasingly aware that environmental and social issues may have negative effects across the economy and their portfolios. For this reason, many investors would like to see
the leadership of their portfolio companies take a proactive approach to the mitigation of these companies’ non-traditional financial risk factors.
We will discuss ways to take action on these issues in the 2018-2019 engagement season as well as how such actions may impact investment management decisions.
Topics will include:
- Positive Impact by Asset Owners: What can institutional investors do to ensure that their portfolio managers, as well as third parties, are appropriately monitoring and managing portfolio E&S risks?
- Board Transformation: How can investors work with nominating committees on board composition to ensure effective oversight of their companies’ resiliency to long-term ESG risks?
- Political Influence: Investors are urging portfolio companies to direct their political spending to support policies fostering long-term environmental or social investments. Can this agenda be advanced in the years to come through greater company-stakeholder
engagement?
